In sports, it’s always difficult to beat an opponent who never quits, who never stops working until the final whistle, who is determined to get the best results possible. Jesuit Soccer has proved to be a tough opponent towards the end of January, but has faced two unfortunate losses in their past results, and are ready to rebound and continue to fight back. Let’s take a recap at these last two games against Prosper and Allen.

Prosper (January 28, 2020)

Starting out Week 2 in UIL District 9, Prosper traveled to a very chilly Postell Stadium in the third game of the league season. Both teams had chances to get goals with important keeper saves, offsides calls, and blocked shots coming into the mix. However, it was a stalemate at the end of the first half. The Rangers began to produce more chances, as Seely and Sierra often found themselves in good positions for shooting and crosses. Things couldn’t come together for the team, as they put all their effort in getting three points, which put more pressure on the defense. Prosper soon mustered a counterattack in the last five minutes of the game, as Prosper forward CJ Lucido put the ball in the back of the net. The game unfortunately finished 1-0 for the Rangers.

Allen (January 31, 2020)

Allen cemented their foot 5 minutes into the game with a double-decoy goal by Johnathan Bernard for a 1-0 lead. Jesuit maintained solid shape, preventing Allen from scoring again in the first half. In the second half, Jesuit was able to get up the field more and put in some corners, but couldn’t put them in the back of the net.The team also suffered some horrific injuries during the game, and still managed to keep playing. To add to the woes, senior midfielder Benny Lube scored another off a low cross to make it 2-0 for the Eagles, ultimately keeping the game out of reach for the Rangers.
