Around 400 Jesuit students wait patiently as names are called. Their classmates walk up to the front of the Terry Center and shake hands with Mr. Garrison and Mr. Earsing.

On Tuesday, May 17th, the underclassmen convocation took place. Attending his very first convocation as a Jesuit student, freshman Seth Burrow believed that, “the convocation was a really cool experience. I never realized how official and regal it would be. And getting to see my classmates receive all sorts of awards was also really satisfying. It showed me that my class has potential to do something special in the three years I have left and I’m pretty excited about that.”

Beginning with a speech by Principle Tom Garrison, the convocation included speeches and appearances from Father Sidney, Dr. Kirby, and Mr. Host.

Reid Hatzmann ’18 thought that, “after attending one underclassmen convocation and both a Junior and Senior Convocations last year, I have begun to understand the importance and significance of these amazing ceremonies. Especially while garnering recognition for the awards I was presented, it was a really special event for me.”

These convocations celebrate and congratulate all of the Jesuit communities hard work both inside and out of the classroom. This convocation certainty did not deviate from that, awarding recognition to every category of activities in the Jesuit community.
