Jesuit has a variety of sports, clubs, and other extracurriculars. When thinking about what Jesuit has to offer, some of the first things that come to mind are football, baseball, basketball, newspaper, yearbook, as well as many other things. But one sport that does not receive much of the spotlight and glamour is Jesuit’s bowling team.

Despite being small, Jesuit’s bowling program is one of the top programs in the state of Texas. The team has been undefeated the past 4 years, and narrowly missed out on state last year. However, last year, two bowlers from the class of 2014 represented Jesuit there by qualifying as individuals. According to team captain Michael Case ’15, the Jesuit bowling team has a pretty good chance of making a run for the state championship this year, “but it will definitely be difficult.” The team lost its top two bowlers to graduation last year and are looking for key seniors like team captains Michael Case ’15 and Matthew Martin ’15 to step up and lead the way.

Other members of the bowling team voiced their opinions of this upcoming year. Lucas Snyder ’15 said, “I was worried in the beginning since we lost our best bowlers, but the team’s been picking it up as the months go on and we’re gaining prospective members, so I’d say we will do well this season.” He went on to say that this year’s group seems to have a “pretty nice” team dynamic, which could be the key to winning lots of matches this season.

The season began on a high note as the team came out a couple weekends ago and dominated, handily beating Winston 12 to 3 in the season opener. All the members of the team proved fundamental in the decisive victory, which included a huge 200 point game from Captain Matthew Martin ’15. This past Saturday, December 13, Jesuit bowled against Grapevine at ITZ in Euless. Here, Jesuit had another key victory, winning 4 out of the 5 matches with a score of 12-3. These matches and those to come are pivotal in Jesuit’s road to state. Both wins are great indicators as to where Jesuit matches up against the best teams in the state, and based on the results, it looks like Jesuit could beat anyone out there.

Make sure to congratulate the team on their victories and cheer them on for their upcoming match against Lake Highlands on January 10!
